My son was diagnosed with high-functioning autism, Tourette's syndrome (mild), ADD, sensory integration disorder, and OCD at 4 years of age. Now he's 13, and all he wants to do is play video games (WW2, battle-type games, flying, shooting) that require serious concentration and strategy skills. He is a straight-A student at school, but, at home, I can't get him motivated to do anything but play the games. Is there a connection between his diagnoses and his intense focus on the games?

As far as I am aware, there is no scientific connection between the diagnoses you describe in your son and his intense focus on games. There are many young people who do not have these diagnoses who also become overly focused on video games. In fact, recent research has demonstrated that 1 out of 10 children who play video games is addicted to them in the way that some people become addicted to activities such as gambling.
I can’t tell you if your son is addicted to video games; however, if he plays more than 14 hours a week, there is a strong likelihood that this is the case. He clearly needs more out-of-school activities and, I suspect, a broader social network. You may want to look into clubs based around a common interest, Scouting, or church-related groups as a way to connect your son to others. I would also strongly consider limiting the number of hours of video games he is allowed to play.
