Larry King Live - CNN archives: Angelina Jolie discusses her mother's ovarian cancer
Angelina Jolie movie inspired by moms cancer
Angelina Jolie wrote, directed, and is starring in the upcoming film "By The Sea."
While the movie co-stars her real-life husband, Brad Pitt, it's not the only reason the project is close to her heart.
"A lot of the film is when I went to visit my mom in the hospital, when she found out she had cancer the first time," Jolie told Tom Brokaw in a new interview for the "Today" show. "She was going to have her ovaries removed and she was very upset, feeling like they were taking out her parts that were female."
Jolie's mom passed away in 2007, after an eight-year battle with ovarian cancer. This past March, after early signs of ovarian cancer, Jolie also had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.
"We had some of the same nurses, some of the same doctors," Jolie said during the interview. "The doctor that did my ovary surgery was my mother's doctor.
