Chic cats of the Munchkin breed
Funny and cute cats with short legs always arouse general interest and curiosity, and if you get to know them better, these animals will also quickly take over your sympathy. Nimble and nimble, always active and cheerful, they can be an excellent companion and friend for your family.
This amazing breed of cats, which may seem to be the next creation of genetic engineering, acquired its non-standard appearance precisely thanks to the inventions of mother nature and natural mutations.
The main distinguishing feature of such babies is the surprisingly short paws with which the Munchkins, however, are controlled no worse than ordinary cats with a standard limb length.
It is believed that this is a relatively young breed of cats, which originates from the United States, Louisiana. It was there, in 1983, that a woman named Sandra found, at first glance, an ordinary black and white cat, but still she was not ordinary: she was distinguished by her short legs.
Sandra has written off such a feature on a difficult childhood and possible illness of a cat, but what her surprise was when the posterity of an unusual pet also inherited this strange trait.
It is believed that it was this historical fact that formed the basis for the formation of a new breed of cats, which was later named Munchkin. After identifying such a breed, a lot of research has been done, but no diseases or deviations that could affect such an unusual appearance of the cat have been identified.
This suggests that the Munchkins are absolutely healthy and strong cats, which are now actively divorced and overgrown with more and more new and unusual colors and subspecies.
Despite the fact that they are sometimes compared with dachshunds, they do not have any problems with the spine, the Munchkins have exactly the same skeleton as other cats, they are sometimes even more flexible and more mobile than one can imagine.
From time to time, specialists discuss the possible problem of lordosis, a disease that causes the muscles of the back and the spine to weaken, in the area of the shoulder blades, begins to descend, leading to serious injuries to the internal organs. However, numerous studies in this area have not proved the connection of the breed with the disease, so lordosis can occur in munchkins in exactly the same way as in ordinary cats.
If you believe the history of this breed, then the first cat breed Munchkin was rather wild and cautious towards people, probably it was related to the habitat. Today, these are kind, funny and very peculiar pets that can boast a large number of features that are unique to this breed.
For example, cats-dachshunds are a great option for those who like to travel a lot, because the munchkins are much easier than other cats to move and easily take root in a new place. As the happy owners of such animals say, the munchkins are very loyal and devoted pets, who are strongly attached to all members of their family.
Due to their docile nature, cats-dachshunds get along well with children, they endure playing games with them, and you can not be afraid that someone will be scratched or bitten. Such cats get along well with other pets, however, do not think that they are not able to stand up for themselves when the need arises.
Munchkins are well accustomed to the leash, they love to walk in the fresh air, so they are perfect for lonely people who have an extra opportunity to walk around and get a loyal companion.
Another characteristic feature of cats of this breed is their love to take the “kangaroo” pose - to turn over to the upright position, being held on the hind legs and tail, and the front ones to press under themselves, straight, like meerkats or kangaroos.
Many owners of cats-dachshunds note that these are very smart and mobile animals, in spite of their short paws, they run fast and jump high, not yielding to cats with standard limbs.
But it turns out they have it very funny, watching such tailed during the game or increased activity - a pleasure. Some representatives of this breed are extremely curious, they like to collect small trinkets they like, somewhere in a secluded place, so that they can play enough with them.
If you do not want to constantly detect the disappearance under the sofa or behind the chair, then it is better to close them in cabinets or shelves where the munchkin cannot reach them.
How to care?
In fact, care for them is no different from caring for the rest of the cats: fluffy representatives need to be combed consistently, preferably at least 2 times a week, so that the hair looks shiny and does not roll into the coils.
Shorthair cats enough to comb 1 time per week to remove the caked down. Like any representatives of the cat, they need a high-quality and balanced diet, preferably natural.
The Munchkins are very clean cats, they love to thoroughly rake in all their “affairs”, so they need to provide a toilet with high bumpers, filled with special sand. Also suitable and closed types of cat litter.
Be sure to take care of the acquisition of the scraper, preferably both horizontal and vertical: so they will stretch well, and your furniture will remain safe and sound.
Kittens, and adult cats of this breed, are very fond of games, they should have at least a couple of small toys: mice or balls, preferably soft, so that they can wear them in their teeth.
Not everyone knows that it is possible to breed munchkins only according to a special scheme: it is necessary to cross a pair in which one of the parents is a standard representative breed, and the second one has long limbs.
If both parents are short-legged, most of the litter is weak and painful, and a fourth of the kittens loses the chance to survive.
Today, the most diverse hybrids of such cats are actively breeding, most of whose representatives can be seen on the photo on the Internet: cat-dachshunds cross with Persians, Siamese, Sphynxes and other representatives of felines, as a result of which new subspecies of Munchkins are formed.
Before buying such a pet, you should find out its pedigree, because, basically, it is from it will depend on the price of a kitten. In nurseries, they are, more often than not, divided into three main groups: for the house, for the exhibition and for breeding.
