Papier Mache Christmas Balls

The approach of the New Year holidays makes us think about how to organize a decent farewell of the old and the New Year. In our family, first of all, it was decided to update outdated and not very nice Christmas toys, which, in fact, we did with our seven-year-old niece (so that we would not have to go shopping and markets in the last hours of the outgoing year in search of something new ). We decided to make papier-mâché Christmas balls with our own hands.

We wanted to design them in different ways. For one, we use the decoupage technique, for the second, we use the trimming technique, and the third, made from the remnants of the “paper dough”, is simply wrapped in a candy wrapper from candy. What we need for work: For making balls: • old newspapers; • threads; • toilet paper; • paper napkins; • PVA glue; • • satin ribbon about 20 cm long.- 3 pieces. For decoupage: • white acrylic paint; • paper napkins with a drawing; • soft brush. For facing: • corrugated paper of 2 colors;• candy wrappers for candy; • glue stick; • sushi stick; • scissors.

Working order: Making balls. Take 2 bowls. In one small pieces we tear toilet paper, in the second - napkins. Fill the contents of both tanks with water and leave to soak.

In the process of winding we attach ribbons in the form of loops (for them we will hang the finished toys on the Christmas tree).

Sodden paper base for papier - mash we thoroughly squeeze and, using PVA glue, pour on the "dough". Christmas balls from papier mache

Now we paste over the blanks of the obtained adhesive mass, trying to form even balls. From the remnants of the "dough" we roll a small lump - it will turn out the third toy. In this form, leave to complete drying (two days a day).

We decorate the balls. We got 3 balls of different sizes. We will decorate the largest one using the decoupage technique. First, cover it with a layer of white acrylic paint and set aside to dry.

In the meantime, we take on a slightly smaller ball - we will decorate it with a three-dimensional application made of corrugated paper and candy wrappers, using the "trimming" technique. Cut the strips about 1 cm wide from the “corrugated” rolls and cut squares from them. We do the same with candy wrappers. In the center of the paper blank we put the end of the sushi stick and wrap a small square around it. We get something like a tube.

We glue the finished face of the obtained figure with glue and glue it onto the ball.

The smallest ball is simply wrapped in a candy wrapper and fastened with a stapler, not forgetting to place a ribbon.
