But why was Piers so close to quitting? The 52-year-old went on to confess that the early start had begun to take its toll. Previously, he was told to get in at 4am to prepare for the show ahead. But now, he doesn’t get up until 4.55am.
Piers and his bosses managed to come to a new arrangement, meaning he is now only required to get into the studios 20 minutes before the show’s 6am start.
However, Piers’ co-hosts Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins are still faced with the alarmingly early start. But Piers explained that the reason behind that is due to their daily hair and make-up schedule.
He said, “The only reason, really, I had to go in so early, it was because the female stars all have to.
“It takes them longer. Because they get more attention and pressure on how they look, how their hair is and everything else.”
Explaining his morning routine, Pier’s stated that he counts himself lucky that he doesn’t come under the same scrutiny.
“I’m lucky. Five minutes of slap and on I go.
